I'm in the process of selling my chassis and I'm going to be spending the next year building a motor from the ground up to put in my next [better condition] Z. As a result, my GT2530's are going to be sitting for a while. For those who might recall, I've had two GT2530's fail on me in as many years, so I'd really like to do everything I can to prevent damage to the turbos while they sit. I don't even know if it's a real concern, but I've heard of people blaming extended periods of non-use for their turbo failure. So the question is simple: is there anything I should do while storing the turbos to keep them fresh? I suspect keeping them upright might help distribute pressure on the bearings, but should I perhaps be adding oil every once in a while and spinning them by hand? Furthermore, the reason for my rebuild is a blown headgasket which resulted in some coolant being pushed through the turbo. I plan to remove the exhaust housing to clean out any residue to prevent rust and suspect that rubbing alcohol will suffice for the housings. If there's something else I should worry about given the situation, please let me know.
I love elitists who aren't really elite in any way... they amuse me greatly. |
